Jesus cares about our Mondays

↓

For most people, most of the time, Monday is a rough day. The daily grind begins after the weekend rest. Along with this comes the temptation to think that Sunday has nothing to do with Mondays or Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

We spent a bit of time discussing this during our Fireside chat last night. Why is it that it feels like Sunday is so detached from the rest of the week?

One potential answer is that our culture sees a clear, dividing line between the secular (or common) and the sacred (or religious). There are times when this is a good division. It is good that there are real limits to what the government can tell churches to do, for example.

There is trouble, however, when we take this society-wide division and implement it in our own lives. We fall into the trap of thinking we can worship on Sunday, but then engage in unsavoury business tactics throughout the week. We think we can “wash away our sins” on Sunday after letting loose on Saturday.

In yesterday’s sermon, Douglas helpfully reminded us all that Jesus stepped into history and helped a joyful, but ordinary, part of life continue. He provided wine for a wedding. He rescued a family from shame. He provided in abundance.

John 1 declares that Jesus is the God who made all things. John 2 declares that he is even the Lord of our celebrations (John 2:1-12) and our worship (John 2:13-22).

May you know him as Lord of your whole life each and every day.

Dear Reader, One of the things that we seek to do here at Ardgowan Square is help people know how to read their Bibles. We do this for a few reasons. The Bible is God’s Word The Bible is how God speaks to us today The Bible teaches us about Jesus Besides attending things like training courses at Cornhill Scotland, there are resources that can help us to read the Bible on our own as part of a devotional practice. For me, personally, that comes in the form of the RANSOM Bible study method. The...

Pastor Dan Alcantara 7 September 2026 Why are we going through John's Gospel? ↓ Week after week, Sunday after Sunday, we talk about the gospel at Ardgowan Square. We talk about who Jesus is, what Jesus did, and why Jesus did it. We talk about what we must do to be saved. We talk about how we can experience forgiveness of sin, reconciliation with God and others, healing in life, peace for today, peace for tonight. During our Sunday Night Fireside discussion, the question came up regarding why...

At Sunday Night Firesides last night, we were discussing how we can discern truth from error, where false beliefs come from, and what part the church can play in helping us to be more discerning. This is all the more important as the culture around us becomes more pluralistic, as technology progresses, and as ‘almost true’ begins to look more and more like ‘actually true’. We are right to be concerned about what we see going on around us. Yet, there is an even greater danger which lurks in...
